Unity State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with some relief organizations, carried out a nutrition assessment among over 8000 children in Bentiu and Rubkona.

In total, 166 children were found to be severely malnourished and those with medical complications were referred to Bentiu Hospital.

Another 724 children were moderately malnourished.

The study revealed that about 40 percent of children in Bentiu and 47 percent for Rubkona were falling below the Global Acute Malnutrition.

High cost of living, poor harvests, drops in the value of assets and growing unemployment were some of the causes of malnutrition in Unity State.

UNICEF, MSF, Malaria Consortium, and CARE participated in the nutrition assessment study.
