President Omar al-Bashir revealed his new government yesterday, two months after the elections took place.
The government is a coalition between National Congress Party and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement: 24 ministers are from the NCP and eight from the SPLM. Three ministries were given to small parties.Salva Kiir Mayardit and Ali Osman Taha remain the two vice-presidents of the republic.
The minister of finance is NCP’s Ali Mahmoud Abdel Rasool while the minister of oil is Lual Ashweil Deng from the SPLM.
The ministry of Foreign Affairs that used to be controlled by the SPLM is now in the hands of Ali Karti, said to be a NCP hard-liner.
