Lakes State recruits cattle camp youth as local police

Rumbek Central County Commissioner said they planned to recruit 70 cattle camp youth as local administrative police famously known as Gelweng in all eight counties to help the government crackdown crimes in the state.
 
Mawet Manuer Khok told Good News Radio on Wednesday that the government approved the enrolment of cattle camp youths into the community policing.
 
He said the Gelweng have shown a good character that they are capable to get rid of cattle rustlers in the state and border issues.
 
Commissioner Manuer said the insecurity in the state including road ambushes, cattle raiding, and revenge killing reduced due to more army and police in Rumbek.
 
He urged all criminals who committed crimes to willingly report to the government for justice to take place or security would pursue them.
 
The Commissioner announced that Gelweng would be paid salaries by the government differently compared to the police.
