Three SPLA heroes perished and at least 15 others wounded in a clash among disabled heroes on Tuesday in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State.
County Chief Police Inspector colonel Jeremiah Maker Nai told the press on Tuesday afternoon that the wounded include 13 men and two women soldiers clashing over salary payments.
The Police Inspector explained that the incident happened when former wounded heroes’ leader Major Akech Majak demanded his payment said to have been transferred to Juba.
He added that current veterans’ leader Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Lual told his predecessor that the payment was no longer in Yei, but Juba, sparking violent gunshots.
Colonel Maker said Lieutenant Colonel Lual and Major Akech were both wounded in the clashes.
Yei Civil Hospital Director said they were preparing referral of five victims with serious to Juba as they struggle to treat others with minor injuries.
Radio Easter journalists witnessed temporary business paralysis in morning hours before the situation normalised in afternoon hours.
