The Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan on Thursday told national legislature that federation alone without change from tribal and intersectional clashes would never end chaos in the country.
James Wani Igga said federalism would not bring heavenly solution to South Sudan because some citizens are troublesome without any sense of co-existence and harmony.
He added that some federations in the world are stable and harmonious, warning that South Sudan’s case would be that of instability and division with traditional hatred among ethnic groupings.
Vice President Wani cited horrible ongoing sectional killings in Lakes State, describing them ‘pitiable, urging politicians and lawmakers to go for recess to quell communal killings in Lakes State by educating citizens about sense of belonging and living together.
Vice President Wani cited large diverse populations and territories with regional concentrations as the most suitable democracies for federalism.
He argued that there is no best single ideal of federalism adoptable for South Sudan, but an integration of many ideals from American, Switzerland and Ethiopia.
The Vice President reminded the legislature that federalism was a long time pursuit of South Sudanese dated back from 1922 and 1947 Juba Conference during British imperialism.
He delinked it from SPLM/A in Opposition leader Dr Riek Machar Teny’s initiative.
