Non-governmental organizations or NGOs called on UN member states to influence South Sudan warring parties to work hard for the positive outcome of peace talks in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia.

The NGOs including Aegis Trust, American Jewish World Service, Catholic Relief Services, The Enough Project, Humanity United, Institute on Religion and Democracy, International Rescue Committee, Jewish World Watch, Mercy Corps, Oxfam, PAX, Safer World on Thursday said the humanitarian toll of South Sudan’s nine-month civil war is mounting.

The NGOs in their statement, following a ministerial high-level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly said more strategic international pressure on the leadership is critical to bring about lasting peace for the people of South Sudan.

They pointed out that achieving a permanent cessation of hostilities, a meaningful peace agreement and unimpeded humanitarian access would be impossible so long as South Sudanese leaders disregard the suffering of their own people.
