Four others were seriously injured in the clash which occurred in the extreme north of Abyei in the village of Maker Abior.
Abyei chief administrator, Deng Arop Kuol, said the armed group killed one policeman and left another seriously injured in the stomach.
General Kuol Deim Kuol, the SPLA spokesman, confirmed the clash.
