Kauda Trade Union Chamber in Heiban County of Nuba Mountains on Tuesday announced the reduction of prices of consumer goods.

Acting Secretary Abdalla Hamad Ismail told Voice of Peace that one rotol of sugar that was initially sold at 15 reduced to 12 Pounds.

He explained that a small packet of salt dropped from ten to eight Pounds, a rotol of coffee came down from 30 to 25 and a bar of soap reduced from 30 to 20 Sudanese Pounds.

Mr Hamad said they reduced the prices following difficulties buyers and traders faced during the rainy season and other tough moments.

He appealed to Umdurduru and other administrative units to reduce their prices.

The Secretary said prices skyrocketed in Nuba Mountains in July due to the closure of Sumbuk intermediary markets and road to Yida due to heavy rains.

He added that another factor that led to the rise of prices was lack of South Sudanese currency in the Nuba Mountains as Sudanese traders bring goods from Yida and Bentiu of Unity State.

He added that the exchanging rate of South Sudanese Pounds with Sudanese Pounds was very expensive.

Many families are not able to attend medical treatment leading to high mortality rate due to high prices in Nuba Mountains.
