Wau Teaching Hospital administration said malaria cases are rising in an alarming manner among children, recording more than four death cases.

It admitted over 100 malaria patients in less than two weeks especially children between three months to 13 years of age, Voice of Hope reported.

Wau Teaching Hospital paediatric specialist Dr James Angelo Marcello disclosed several death cases witnessed due to late arrival at the facility and insufficient blood transfusion.

He explains that the hospital depends on patients’ relatives’ blood donation to the extent that patients chance to die where relatives fail to donate.

The specialist exposed inadequate admission facilities, causing patients’ congestion at children wards.

Dr. Angelo lamented that the hospital could not afford perfect admission accommodation facilities, making some patients to share single beds.

The doctor attributed the rise in Malaria infections to heavy rains witnessed mid September, creating water stagnation.
