United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS started commemorating International Day of Peace on Saturday under the theme: ‘the right of the peoples to peace’.
UNIMISS Communication office explained that the celebration will start with lectures on Saturday morning at the University of Juba.
The office added that Director for the University Centre for Peace and Development Studies Luka Biong Deng is expected to speak on ‘peace, a foundation for development’.
Voice for Change Director Lona James Elia will discuss ‘non-violent approaches to conflict resolution’.
UNMISS Human Rights Officer Mary Lokoyome is expected to lecture on ‘the right of the peoples to peace’ and how it is related to the UNMISS mandate.
UNMISS Communication office said the celebration would be concluded on Sunday with a football match for peace at Nyokuron Cultural Centre sport pitch and the winning team would be awarded an UNMISS peace trophy.
