A European high ranking official was in Juba today to discuss with GoSS president the humanitarian crisis and the democratic process including the referendum in south Sudan.
The European Commissioner for Humanitarian and International Cooperation, Christalina Georgieva, told the press this afternoon in Juba that she discussed with Salva Kiir Mayardit ways to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the region.Dr. Georgieva explained that the EU is already helping south Sudan in the areas of food security, health, water and sanitation among other basic services.
She said she also discussed the issues around the referendum. She added that Europe was ready to assist in the preparations and send observers for the registarton and voting.
Dr. Georgieva concluded that her office was interested to strengthen democracy in southern Sudan.
