Committee to Protect Journalists or CPJ ordered South Sudan government to either present journalist George Livio to court or release him.

In a statement on Tuesday the Committee disclosed that Radio Miraya’s journalist and UN Security Guard James Lual Tharjiath were arrested on August 22 by security agents in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal State without charges contrary to South Sudan laws.

It added that the journalist is in detention for more than two weeks now.

Western Bahr El Ghazal Information Minister Derrick Alfred told the Committee that security agents detected Livio’s communications with SPLM/A in Opposition, accusing him and the family of collaborating with the resistance movement.

Radio Miraya denied allegations against its employee.

Information Minister Michael Makuei on Sunday warned journalists not to interview the Opposition to avoid being viewed as “agitators’.
