Torit County Commissioner called for civil population disarmament in Eastern Equatoria as the only solution for peace to prevail among communities.
German Charles Ojok made the call following the Thursday killing of nine women and three children from Omorwo village of Loudo Boma, Emmanuel Radio reported.
He pointed out that guns in civilians’ hands continue to inflame cycle of violence, saying fighting with sticks could not claim many lives and cause severe damage.
Eastern Equatoria Governor Louis Lobong Lojore said President Salva Kiir Mayardit passed a general order to conduct disarmament in the country, citing a similar unimplemented state parliament’s resolution.
He noted that disarmament of areas with violence could bring peace, but that it requires consensus to avoid negative criticism like that of Hiyala.
Governor Lobong cited individuals in organized forces leaking out information to suspects as some challenges affecting the government to implement law and order.
The Thursday attack at Baari village in Loudo Boma, Bur Payam of Torit County of Eastern Equatoria was the second incident in one place.
At least 35 people died in the violence since June last year.
