The Citizen Newspaper Deputy Editor-in-Chief on Wednesday launched a book entitled ‘Mass Media in Sudan Experience of the South’ highlighting suffering of journalists in media development from 1940-2005.
Victor Keri Wani cited the arrest of the then Vigilance Newspaper Editor Bona Malual Madut, accused of inciting Southern Sudanese against the then Khartoum regime.
He added that the editor’s arrest was a prejudice, saying he was an innocent journalist victimized for mobilizing the South against Arab dominated Sudan.
Mr Keri said South Sudan media situation after independence remains unpredictable, reflecting the history of the Sudan.
He concluded that independent South Sudan has yet several challenges to overcome to change dark records of the past.
Writers’ Association Chairperson Joseph Abuk urged South Sudanese intellectuals to invest in writing to reflect social, economic and political aspects of South Sudan before death.
He commended Victor Keri Wani for setting a good example in writing.
The book launching on Wednesday is the third artistic work of Victor Keri Wani now adopted for academic use in the University of Juba.
