The governments of Indian approved 400 solar units to be installed in South Sudan for free.
Indian government representative Bunk Roy broke the news during the signing of the memorandum of understanding on solar panel in Yei Municipality on Saturday, Easter Radio reported
He said communities agreed to pay 115 South Sudanese Pounds monthly for maintenance.
The national Cabinet minister Martin Elia Lomurö who witnessed the signing ceremony, commended the government of India, describing the supply of solar electricity as a social development.
He commended people of Yei River for remaining peaceful, urging communities to live in love and respect one another.
Episcopal Presbyterian Church Bishop of South Sudan and Sudan Elias Taban who signed the memorandum on behalf of the government said the six women to get solar engineering training in India are expected to leave next month.
Yei Mayoress Oba Cecilia Tito thanked Indian government for taking women from South Sudan for the solar engineering training, adding that women need empowerment.
The solar electricity supply started with 200 homes in Kenyi Payam of Lainya County as a pilot project for the whole nation.
