UNDP pledges to support gender-based violence training

United Nations Development Programme or UNDP pledged to continue funding community policing and gender-based violence related courses targeting people in UNMISS civilians protection sites throughout the country.
 
UNDP Democratic Governance and Stabilization Team Leader Lealem Berhanu Dinku on Friday at the end of five-day course that brought together 45 participants including 17 female, said the training should benefit IDPs in the sites, Bakhita Radio reported.
 
He said they were working to save lives, protect women, children and sensitize men on their roles to help combat violence in UN camps.
 
Mr Dinku said UNDP would work in collaboration with UNMISS Police and other UN agencies to support to community policing and gender-based violence training programmes in affected States to enable IDPs regulate themselves.
 
UNMISS Police Chief of Reform and Restructuring Unit Derek Scott urged the participants to translate the knowledge acquired into practice within the sites.
 
He said benefits of the training should be visible in order to attract more support from sponsors, urging the participants to be peace advocates.
 
Protection sites Chairperson in Juba Peter Gatkuoth Biel expressed happiness that UN was mindful of them by arranging training programmes for IDPs.
