Central Equatoria Minister for Animal Resource and Fisheries said state animal resources have no proper economic exploitation because of social, cultural norms of pastoralists’ communities in addition to environmental factor.
Ghada James Killa in her opening remarks during a one-day policy framework validation workshop in Juba on Wednesday, said though the state has 4.4 million heads of livestock: comprising two million and sixty thousand heads of cattle, 1.2 million goats and one million sheep, do not benefit Central Equatoria, Bakhita Radio reported.
The Minister said fisheries sector greatly contributes to reduce food insecurity among pastoralist communities if well developed and could also attract investors to the state and the nation at large.
Central Equatoria Deputy Governor Manasseh Lomole Waya advised citizens to embark on food production for both domestic and commercial purposes.
He said South Sudanese consume imported meat, chicken and fish yet South Sudan is endowed with a lot of resources.
Central Equatoria Vision 2040 chairperson Kenyi Spencer advised that developing the animal resources and fisheries in the state would boost economic development of the state and South Sudan.
