Food prices shoot up in Wau

Western Bahr El Ghazal Deputy Governor said prices of food items hiked up due to Tombura-Wau roads closure and rains increase where 200 trucks stuck.
 
Joseph Zachariah Garang on Friday while briefing the state cabinet on security situation, said price of food items increased especially flour and Sugar particularly last month, Voice of Hope reported.
 
Clement Peter who sells rice and beans at Jou market said beans increased from 260 to 350 and rice shot up from 125 to 140 South Sudanese Pounds.
 
A bread seller, Grace Elario, lamented that the rise in price posted a big challenge to her business as profit became lower than before.
 
She urged the government to repair roads to ease the movement of vehicles between the neighbouring countries and states.
 
Osman Ali complained that prices rise due to poor roads during rainy season and that roads to Khartoum and Uganda were cut off.
 
He cited increase in US dollars as another factor raising prices in the market.
