Eleven journalists from South Sudan Radio and TV were freed today after 16 days of interrogation by national security personnel in Juba.
One of the released journalists told SCR News over the phone that they were now under investigation by GoSS Ministry of Internal Affairs.The journalists were charged with sabotaging the government of Southern Sudan.
Southern Sudan TV and Radio journalists went on strike on May 19 to protest over unpaid housing allowances for the whole year of 2009.
On May 21, 15 journalists were detained, nine men and six women, just before Salva Kiir Mayardit was inaugurated as the first elected president of South Sudan.
Three women and one men were later released.
Our source explained that the ministry would study the reports prepared by the Security and decide what to do with each individual.
