Elders push President Kiir to form committee to study federalism

A group of elders call National Community Leaders’ Forum on Friday in Juba called on the President of the Republic to form a high technical committee to study federalism.
 
Elders’ representative Ambrose Ring Thiik read out 18 resolutions after their two-day forum push Salva Kiir Mayardit to formulate a nationwide committee to examine federal system of governance for informed constitutional reforms.
 
He said elders also demanded President Kiir to constitute a land management system committee to control land grabbing in Juba besides other towns.
 
Justice Ring said the Forum called on the President to consolidate National Community Leaders’ Forum to mentor peace and unity among citizens.
 
The Forum urged state and national governments to regulate movements of cattle in agricultural areas to avoid conflict between pastoralists and farmers.
 
Justice Ring said the Forum called on the government to improve diplomatic relations to sell South Sudan’s image better than now.
 
The elders urged the government and SPLM/A in Opposition to give chance to national reconciliation and healing among communities through face to face dialogue.
 
The Forum requested President Kiir to make courageous decisions to introduce major reforms in government’s institutions.
 
It demanded the Interior Ministry to strengthen Central Equatoria State security sector to protect citizens and property.
