African Union or AU Peace and Security Council condemned attacks against UNAMID personnel and assets, urging Sudan government to investigate perpetrators and bring them to justice.

In statement issued on Wednesday, AU reiterated its firm support to the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur or DDPD as a viable framework for bringing lasting peace and reconciliation.

The Council welcomed the implementation of DDPD by security provisions launching on June 22 of the Justice, Truth and Reconciliation Committees to work with the native administration to address the root causes of Darfur conflict.

It encouraged the parties to expedite efforts to address outstanding issues, calling on the international community to support the implementation process.

The Council calls for renewed efforts to address the prevailing security situation in Darfur, congratulating UNAMID for preventing inter-ethnic conflicts.
