A hyena on Wednesday night attacked Abinajok residents killing one person and wounded nine others.

One of the victims, Mangnar Dut Abang told Good News Radio on Thursday that the wild animal attacked his neighbours first while he was asleep before attacking his children.

He explained that the hyena attacked him when he was entering his room from a short call.

An SPLA soldier John Malek Mangot said he killed the hyena after it caused more harm to Abinajok.

Lakes State Wildlife Director Brigadier General Mawut Wuoy Yol said hyenas do not easily bite people but when death bodies were unburied come to they eat them.

He appealed to the public to depend themselves from wild animals attacking their home, urging citizens to avoid going to bushes.

The hyena victims are under medical treatment at Rumbek State Hospital.
