Ajras al-Huriya newspaper staff said on Sunday they would suspend publication for one week to protest against censorship by government and security authorities.
Acting editor-in-chief Faiz al-Silaik announced the strike after the newspaper was unable to go to press for the third day in a row due to censorship.Press freedom monitoring groups said the newspaper was under pressure for some time.
Several other papers reported they were directly or indirectly censored over the course of last weekend particularly with regard to news about the doctors’ strike and the International Criminal Court.
