Eastern Equatoria Governor during the commemoration of the third independence anniversary at Torit Freedom Square said self-seeking political leaders are responsible for the ongoing conflict in South Sudan.

Louis Lobong Lojore who did not mention any name terms it ‘a pity’ to witness South Sudan in bloody crisis, saying short sighted and self seeking individuals who want to attain their interests caused the crisis in the country, Emmanuel Radio reported.

He recalled that South Sudanese shed blood during the many years of the liberation struggle and are again shedding blood in ‘meaningless war’.

Governor Lobong noted that citizens should now be enjoying dividends of peace and freedom from marginalization and not facing hardships of a new fighting.

He challenged South Sudanese leaders to resolve their internal issues in a peaceful manner and wondered whether the neighbouring countries were managed by angels.

Governor Lobong called for South Sudan where political power lies in the hands of civilians with a peaceful transfer of leadership through ballots, not bullets.

The Governor regretted the unfortunate situation where South Sudanese still lose lives after gaining independence.

Eastern Equatoria Legislative Assembly Acting Speaker Paul Napwon noted that a lot needs to be done because South Sudan only achieved political freedom.

He cited continued bondage of poverty, various kinds of discriminations, instigation and persecutions in the country.
