Over 20 women are meeting to develop a consensus and formulate key recommendations on gender and peace and security building in south Sudan.

The meeting came as a result of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 that stressed the importance of women to have equal participation and full involvement in all efforts for the maintenance and promotion of peace.

Lucy Luguga told SCR News that the meeting would review the implementation of the UN resolution in South Sudan.

Ms. Luguga added that the recommendations from the meeting should be combined with the ones of women from Darfur, Eastern and Northern Sudan to be submitted as a single paper about Sudan to the UN secretary general through his special representative in the Sudan.

Ms. Luguga urged the government to be accountable for the implementation of the UN resolution on women and security and peace.
