South Sudan National Police Service on Monday graduated five hundred officers after two-week Emergency Call Centre training to respond to emergencies, professionally and effectively.

Region Affairs Director Major General Sebit Makelele told the graduates that they introduced 777 as special free number to ease public access to police help during emergency.

He said the number would help public to provide information to police at all times about any crime affecting them in their various locations in Juba.

Inspector General Pieng Deng Kuol criticized the police force called by civilians to rescue situation ending by beating them because they did not get criminals.

He advised the trainees to handle accusations carefully, warning them not to get involved in beating accused people because it might be a wrong accusation.

The Inspector urged them to show high discipline, condemning police from looting civilians and foreigners’ properties.

UNDP Deputy Country Director for Operations Mulugeta Abebe said police commitment would ensure professional function of the Emergency Call Centre to create a conducive and secure environment for post conflict construction and sustainable development.

The police emergency call centre is established as a lead in Juba by Interior Ministry, supported by Telecommunication Ministry, UNDP, GIZ, and Mobile Service providers funded by the government of Japan.
