Religious leaders in Western Bahr el Ghazal called for consideration of peace as a top priority before deciding on a governance system.

Episcopal Church of South Sudan and Sudan Bishop Moses Deng Bol said fighting should first stop, form transitional government to organize the system of governance people want, Voice of Hope reported.

Bishop Deng lamented that government and opposition forces are fighting while people are suffering and dying from diseases, hunger and rendering others homeless, yet many call for governance system instead of putting peace first.

He said federalism could be the next focus after achieving peace.

Sheik Ismail Turkey said South Sudanese need to vote through referendum the type of governance they want instead of media campaign.

He added that peace should be given the first chance and that through peace everything would be possible.

The religious leaders made the remarks on Thursday during Voice of Hope Radio talk show in Wau.
