United nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS Recovery Reintegration and Peace Team Building Head told journalists in Juba that people arriving Bentieu camp were in unhealthy conditions, saying they saw a double problem in the camp.

Derk Segaar said about 100 thousand IDPs seeking protection around the country, expressing UNMISS commitment to address their challenges.

Mr Segaar said the whole area was in a flood and that people were sitting in water, describing their conditions as terrible.

He added that there were few latrines and that there are 134 people currently per a latrine constituting high risk for diseases outbreak.

UNMISS Acting Spokesperson Joseph Contreras refuted the wild rumours he described ‘baseless’ that the mission distributed weapons among IDPs in the camps.

Mr Contreras disclosed that all people at UNMISS protection sites were required to handover their guns and remove their uniforms.
