CID says combating drug trafficking is challenging

Administration of Crimes Investigation Department or CID on anti-narcotic marked the world Drug Combat Day on Thursday in Juba, revealing that fighting drug trafficking in South Sudan is a thug of war.
 
CID Acting Director said the anti-narcotic department established in 2012 with the task of combating and preventing drug trafficking within and across the country faces challenges.
 
The official said several prohibited drugs including opium are locally grown in the country and that there are several imports from neighbouring countries.
 
United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS Deputy Police Commissioner Sanjay Kundu warns that drug trafficking leads to other organized crimes because it generates income for more business deals including counterfeit currency, robbery and theft.
 
He advised police to stop accepting bribes and engaging in drug related activities.
 
Mr Kundu told police to stay away from drug consumption or business.
 
The officials made the statement at CID and Crimes Anti-narcotics administration Headquarters in Juba.
