The Kenyan government invested five millions US dollars to finance the setting up of new administrative structures in south Sudan.

The money will help to boost the capacity of the South’s civil service, Daily Nation reported.

Most of this assistance is motivated by the expected outcome of a referendum on self-determination to take place at the beginning of next year.

Kenya’s Foreign Affairs minister, Moses Wetang’ula, said a Southern Sudan Liaison Office was set up at the Office of the President in Nairobi to support the Government of South Sudan and the SPLM.

The Kenya Institute of Administration set up a campus in Juba to contribute to training programmes in the region.

Legal experts from Nairobi are working with the parliament in Juba to help in drafting legislation, while Southern Sudan regularly sends senior ministry officials to Nairobi for training.
