Intergovernmental Authority on Development or IGAD on Monday adjourned South Sudan peace talks in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for consultations.
The multi-stakeholder roundtable launched on June 20 2014 aimed to bring SPLM former detainees, political parties, civil society and faith-based organizations talks alongside the government and SPLM/A in opposition in accordance with the May 9 agreement.
A statement issued on Monday said IGAD Special Envoys would engage in broad consultations with South Sudanese stakeholders, IGAD’s leaders, the African Union, the United Nations Security Council and partners.
They are also expected to follow up the full operationalization of the Monitoring and Verification Mechanism in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2155.
The stakeholders are expected to consult and provide feedback on the draft framework for political negotiations toward a settlement of the crisis.
IGAD urged the stakeholders to prepare for the next phase of negotiations and engage substantively in order to meet the deadline and complete dialogue on the formation of a transitional government of national unity within 60 days.
It also called on the political leaders to assume their responsibilities with the same resolve that their neighbours and the international community attach to the tragic situation.
