Presidency wants Equatoria to leave federalism

Presidential Press Secretary said President of the Republic wants Equatoria region to stop advocating for federalism and work for peace first.
 
Ateny Wek Ateny told Bakhita Radio that Salva Kiir Mayardit does not want Equatorians’ attention to be diverted by opposition leader Dr Riek Machar.
 
He added that Dr Machar was scheming to assume power by bringing in confusion within what he termed the internal front.
 
The Press Secretary said President Kiir was appealing to Equatoria to suspend the demand for federalism and focus on peace settlement first.
 
Mr Ateny said South Sudanese should decide in a referendum on the governance system they want afterwards.
 
He argued that President Kiir never condemned Equatoria for demanding federalism.
 
The Secretary said anybody intending to rule out President Kiir from the proposed interim government is planning for win-lose game.
 
He said the presidency and his government would not accept any attempt to exclude President Kiir and incumbent post holders from the future government of national unity.
 
Mr Ateny vowed that the presidency would not accept Dr Machar to lead the country.
 
The Secretary added that government still remains committed to form transitional government within 60 days as agreed by President Kiir and opposition leader Dr Machar on June 10.
 
Mr Ateny said government delegates in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia were still waiting for IGAD’s apology for describing President Salva Kiir ‘stupid’.
