United Nations Refugees’ agency or UNHCR and ACROSS officially opened a Maternal Ward for refugees in Lasu Payam of Yei River County, Central Equatoria State.
Lasu Health Centre Officer Collins Kerere said they register ten deliveries and 50 antennal care cases everyday, Easter Radio reported.
He explained that they were forced to discharge mothers before time due to congestion, poor and inadequate facility for admitting expectant mothers.
The Officer said the facility does not only serve refugees but also host community.
Mr Collins appreciated UNHCR for constructing the facility, serving refugees and host communities beyond Abegi, Rubeke and Libogo.
He said it was UNHCR mandate to provide services to South Sudanese
On the same occasion, Lasu payam elder Lubari Ramba urged the people of Yei to work hard like Congolese refugees in farming and trade.
He advised refugees to focus on education given the availability of well constructed schools and enough teachers.
The elder commended UN agencies for building schools, maternal wards and chiefs’ house to benefit refugees and host communities.
