Thousands of children some carrying placards, marched from office of the Mayor to Freedom Square in Torit on Monday to mark the African Child Day and pay tribute to their colleagues killed in wars, abused in South Sudan and other African countries.
Children representative Osman Asai called for remembrance of their age mates killed in South Africa and those in Juba, Jonglei, Bentiu and Malakal, Emmanuel Radio reported.
Overwhelmed by the turn up of children and their presentations, the acting state Education minister Margaret Itto blamed adults for the suffering of children.
She called for an end to violence against childrenin order for them to celebrate the Day in other states of South Sudan.
Eastern Equatoria Deputy Governor Jerome Surur Gama condemned indiscriminate killing of children in the country.
He also denounced forceful, child marriages and girl child compensation described by the children in their writings and poems as acts that violates their rights.
Children from 20 primary and three secondary schools in Torit demonstrated their suffering in Africa and South Sudan in particular with dramas, songs and poems during the African Child day, advocating for an end to their abuses and wars.
