Over 80 people were killed in clashes between the SPLA and three separate rebellious forces in Jonglei and Unity states in May.

SPLA spokesperson Major General Kuol Deim Kuol told Bloomberg dot Com that 29 soldiers and 58 rebels were killed since three former SPLA officers revolted against what they called rigged elections results.

Mr. Deim said Khartoum was backing the rebels.

Gen. George Athor, who is in the bush since the end of April after he lost a bid to become governor of Jonglei state, denied links with the National Intelligence.

David Yauyau and Col. Galwak Gai are the other two rebellion leaders in Jonglei and Unity, respectively.
