An official from GoSS ministry of Agriculture dismissed as overemphasized reports that said the majority of south Sudan population was under severe food shortage.
UN relief chief John Holmes told the press on Saturday in Juba that at least forty percent of the population in the south was in urgent need of food assistance.
Loro George, Director General of Research and Training at the ministry of Agriculture told SCR News that the problem of food insecurity in South Sudan was overemphasized.
Mr. Loro said there were pockets of food shortage in South Sudan due to draught and insecurity while other areas increased production in the past five years.
Dr. Loro added that food insecure and food sufficient areas should be specified.
Dr. Loro noted that vegetables sold in towns were grown in south Sudan.
