The Ministry of Agriculture in the Central Equatoria state government attributed poor farming results in south Sudan to lack of manpower.

Subek Samson heads the agriculture directorate in Central Equatoria. He told SRS that many people were migrating from the rural areas to the towns, leaving farmers without manpower to produce food.

Mr. Samson added that the farming methods were too poor and together with lack of manpower they were responsible for food shortages.

He encouraged farmers not to give up on farming noting that depending on the World food Programme was not good.

Over half South Sudan population live under the threat of hunger due to food shortages.
