The President of the Republic on Monday told parliamentarians at National Legislative Assembly reopening session that the demand for federal system of governance is not really workable.

Salva Kiir Mayardit said federalism demand was a pretext used by his rival SPLM/A in opposition leader Dr Riek Machar Teny to divide internal front in South Sudan.

He admitted that South Sudanese before the independence from the Sudan demanded for federalism.

President Kiir said it was up to the people to decide for the system of governance, but it should be discussed, not issued on silver plate.

He accused Dr Machar of cunning wisdom to agree with the Equatorians’ demand for federalism in a conference resolution in 2013, despising it as nothing but trick.

President Kiir admitted failures in governance and nation building, attributing them to deliberate manipulations by his own comrades inciting danger, hatred and violence.

He appealed to all citizens including those in opposition to forgive one another and reconcile with sincerity.

The President directed the legislature to immediately approve and demarcate former Pibor and Juba Districts into counties as demanded by natives to avoid future rebellion.
