Regional leaders meet in Yambio to end LRA atrocities

Leaders from the Lord’s Resistance Army or LRA affected regions of Africa on Tuesday launched a three-day meeting in Yambio, Western Equatoria to discuss ways to stop LRA’s atrocities and assist displaced persons.
 
Regional Taskforce Commander Brigadier Sam Kovuma said they rescued 132 children abducted by the LRA, killed 502 militants and 196 others surrendered, Anisa Radio reported.
 
He said LRA now has between 200 and 300 including their families in the bush.
 
Kisangani Deputy Governor in DR Congo Eastern Province Pascal Mombi Opana appreciated Western Equatoria and South Sudan governments for hosting the regional meeting in Yambio.
 
He expressed DR Congo government’s commitment to come up with concrete decisions to end LRA atrocities on its territory.
 
Haut Mbomu Region of Central African Republic Secretary General Dewo Pafounga said their government lack funds to address the LRA issue.
 
He registered successes of the Ugandan People’s Defence Forces through local media support.
 
Western Equatoria Governor Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro urged the regional leaders to come up with amicable solutions to end LRA atrocities.
 
He urged his counterparts to put the interest of their people as the first priority.
