The UN Secretary-General urged mobilization of efforts to support Sudan to complete honouring its commitments, particularly the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and post-referendum obligations.

Vice President Ali Osman Mohamed Taha reported that Ban Ki-moon called for a consultative meeting on the Sudan between the UN, the African Union, some neighbours as well as the African countries members of the Security Council.

Mr. Taha said that some countries expressed reservations on the consequences of leaving Sudan without any assistance that could enable the country overcome the challenges ahead.

The Vice President added that the participants assured the need to respect the referendum results either way, while taking into account the importance of a free and fair consultation.
