Inmates died at Torit County due to lack of money to pay for medical treatment as Torit Referral Hospital declined to offer them service without cash.
Eastern Equatoria MP representing Budi County Bosco Etiang told the state Assembly that an inmate identified as John Kamar who was sentenced to three years imprisonment died on Tuesday because he could not afford to pay for treatment, Emmanuel Radio reported.
He said the hospital authority also demanded money to care for the body of the late inmate.
MP Etiang wondered where and how prisoners get money to pay for their medical care.
Eastern Equatoria Health Minister Margaret Itto said she shared with hospital authority to wave charges on inmates to help when operation funds delay.
MPs on Wednesday at the Assembly raised concerns on the dead of prisoners due to lack of treatment.
