Thousands of fuel barrels caught fire at Lokoloko market at around 12:30 aftrnoon, growing wild to small shops and kiosks in the area which lasted for almost one hour.
Angry business men at the market protested against fire fighters for coming late at the scene, Voice of Hope reported.
Wau Deputy Mayor Anthony Charles Mberende said the fire started on one of the fuel tanks.
The Deputy Mayor explained that the fire extinguisher delayed because of the distance, warning protestors against sabotage to government operations to rescue disastrous incidents.
Fuel owners could not immediately confirm the exact losses and the cause of the fire, saying they mysteriously show smoke at the biggest fuel store owned by Khalil Ismail Adam at the extreme end of Lokoloko market.
They confirmed that hundreds of barrels were rescued from the blaze disclosing that it was the worst fire witnessed in Lokoloko retail fuel business store.
