Oxfam Britain called for a massive and rapid global quick action in the aid effort to help millions of people at ‘acute risk of hunger and disease’ in South Sudan.
In a statement on Wednesday, Oxfam Executive Chief Mark Goldring said the crisis reached a ‘now or never moment’ to avoid catastrophic levels of hunger and suffering.
He said the South Sudan crisis was at a tipping point, requiring quick intervention to rescue millions from paying the price.
The Chief called on governments to respond generously and without delay to the UN appeal at a conference to pledge money in Oslo next Tuesday.
The Oxfam Chief said the 1.27 billion Dollars UN appeal is only 40 percent funded with a shortfall of more than 700 million US Dollars.
Mr Goldring said Oxfam launched its appeal to the British public to help fund its 15 US million Dollars equivalent to 25 Million sterling pounds to deliver aid to people in dire need in the crisis hit South Sudan.
He called for other governments to follow the UK’s lead and provide their fair share of funding.
