Inter-governmental Authority on Development, IGAD Special Envoys to South Sudan peace mediation process said proposed face to face meeting between President Kiir and SPLM/A in opposition leader Dr Machar in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia would help end months of violence in the country.
The Special Envoys in a press statement expected the critical meeting to provide necessary force to the ongoing mediation process towards an inclusive and lasting political solution to the crisis.
They said both parties agreed to tackle implementation of the Cessation of Hostilities agreement and permanent ceasefire; transitional governance and interim arrangements with a permanent constitution.
The mediation team revealed that the development followed the signing of a recommitment on humanitarian matters in the Cessation of Hostilities agreement between the government and SPLM/A in opposition on May 5 in Addis Ababa.
The recommitment on humanitarian matters agreement include observing 30 ‘days of tranquility’ starting from May 7, opening all humanitarian corridors with neighboring countries to preposition humanitarian supplies.
They called on both parties to commit to the agreement in moving the peace process forward towards a speedy end to conflict.
