African Union, AU Commission of Inquiry headed by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo is in Juba to meet government officials including the President of the Republic, Speaker of National Assembly, Defence, National Security, Interior and Gender Ministers to account for human rights violations in the ongoing conflict.
In a statement issued on Tuesday the commission also plans to meet Army Chief of Staff, Commander of Presidential Guard and UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General in South Sudan to give their account of the unfolding crisis in the country, involving targeted ethnic killings.
The statement added that the commission would meet SPLM/A in opposition leader Dr Riek Machar Teny and the group plus other stakeholders to get their account of the story.
The commission would guarantee healing for sustainable peace and security in South Sudan.
Other members of the Commission include Professor Mahmood Mamdani, Ms. Bineta Diop, Professor Pacifique Manirakiza and Lady Justice Sophia Akuffo.
