Government and rebel forces are fighting in South Darfur in two distinct locations.

UNAMID, the joint UN-African Union peacekeeping force in Darfur, said in yesterday’s Media Brief that the security situation in Darfur is tense following reports of fighting between Sudanese Armed forces and the Justice and Equality Movement in Um Sauna.

The area is located just north east of El Daein town, South Darfur.

The mission added that forces belonging to the Sudanese Liberation Army/Abdul Wahid attacked Sudanese military positions roughly 110 kilometres north of Nyala town, in South Darfur.

Government authorities have denied these claims.
