This is Pope Benedict’s vision shared with participants in the plenary session of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant Peoples.
The Pope explained that coexistence among peoples can come about by following prudent and concerted policies of acceptance and integration, offering opportunities for migrants to attain legal status.
He urged hosting nations to favour the legitimate right to family reunion, asylum and refuge, and tackle the deplorable traffic of human beings.
Pope Benedict added that for reconciling recognition of individual rights with the principle of national sovereignty and the needs of security, public order and the control of frontiers, the various international organizations have to cooperate with one another and with the states.
