United Nations, UN Secretary-General strongly condemned Thursday’s attack on civilians and peacekeepers at the UN mission base in Bor by a mob of armed civilians who forced their way in, opening fire on displaced persons.

Ban Ki-moon lamented in a statement issued by his spokesperson in New York, ‘This attack on a location where civilians are being protected by the United Nations is a serious escalation’.

He warned that any attack on UN peacekeepers is unacceptable and constitutes a war crime.

The Secretary- General expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and pledged all possible support to those wounded in the attack.

Dozens of the five thousand IDPs sheltering in Bor compounds were wounded, receiving medical attention at the base clinic.

The statement added that two peacekeepers sustained injuries while repelling the armed mob.

The UN chief urged the warring parties to refrain from any actions or statements that could further escalate the situation.
