United Nations Mission in South Sudan, UNMISS reassured the world of its determination to use all necessary means to protect civilians, personnel and assets facing violence in the country.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Mission said it would defend itself in conformity with its mandate.

The Mission called on all displaced persons sheltering in its bases to remain calm, exercise restraint, strictly respect the ground rules governing their stay.

The statement urged IDPs to desist from any action that may provoke violence.

UNMISS also called on national, state and local authorities and forces to protect all civilians to ensure that the holiness of United Nations premises is protected.

The statement of condemnation followed what the Mission described as deadly and unprovoked attack on its base in Bor City of Jonglei State by a mob of armed civilians.
