UNMISS condemns fighting leading to fall of Bentiu to opposition

United Nations Mission in South Sudan, UNMISS on Thursday issued a condemnation message against renewed hostilities in violation of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement between Government and SPLM/A in opposition.
 
In a statement issued on Thursday, the mission said it condemned the act in the strongest terms possible.
 
It added the IDPs in Bentiu UN compound had risen to 12 thousand since Monday.
 
The mission team in Bentiu said it saw 40 dead bodies along roadside, majority of them dressed in military uniform.
 
The statement added that during the fighting one IDP was wounded with bullets penetrating tents and containers inside the compound.
 
The mission reiterated that it would continue to remain impartial, urging the warring parties to comply with their agreements.
